Family of 112 styles across 8 families and 2 variable fonts
Instead of the traditional view of a typeface as a collection of static styles, GT Flexa embraces the idea of a fluid design space. As a dynamic tool, it enables joyful typesetting that allows for fully responsive designs. Its creators, Dominik Huber & Marc Kappeler, spent six years fine-tuning GT Flexa’s concept and character. The result is an impressively extensive typographic system with a unique personality. We’re proud to publish this beautiful piece of design and prove to you that a grotesk typeface can still be fun.
From thin to thick, narrow to wide, and upright to italic—along its three axes, GT Flexa dynamically responds to any given format: the ideal partner for truly responsive typography.
Simplicity is the key to this typeface’s appearance. The design pieces together simple shapes with minimal refinement and limited stroke contrast. The resulting raw build gives it both personality and the necessary sturdiness to perform in even its most extreme states.
Design decisions down to the smallest details are guided by simple principles. Visibly carved inktraps counter the cluttering of heavy weights. Looped terminals minimize the inside white space in the narrow widths. These features enable tight, impactful typesetting while preserving an even colour.
GT Flexa embraces the new variable font technology. Its design space runs along 3 axes: ↑ Weight, → Width, and ↗ Italic. Within this three-dimensional space, you can create any style that best fits your requirements. If that’s not enough—or too much—the family also offers a monospaced variant with Weight and Italic axes.
If you don’t require the full flexibility of variable fonts, the family still comes structured as seven carefully selected weights, ranging from Lazer to Black.
GT Flexa covers a vast range of different widths. Play with the flexing type below to get a feeling for how they can be used to achieve a multitude of effects.
Using an Italic? That’s so 2019! 2020 is all about half-Italics and quarter-Italics. Your Italics can be animated, bounce, and jigger: they are yours to play with.
When even all of GT Flexa’s different widths aren’t enough, there’s still the Mono, where each character takes up the same horizontal space. Of course, it comes with both a weight and italic axis.
You can purchase licensing for the entire typeface or any of the eight subfamilies and 112 single styles. Please email us for variable font files, which are included in the full family purchase.
